Lifeline Brass Blokes Award
By Rob Sams
I am proud to be a volunteer supporting Lifeline’s work in Newcastle, the Hunter and Central Coast. It is a great organisation that provides services to people at such an important time in their life. Our telephone counselling service is run mostly by people who volunteer their time, so raising funds to keep this service going is an important focus of our work.
Lifeline is driven by a passion for ‘Saving Lives’, and we aim to do this not only through the telephone counselling, but also by raising awareness of suicide prevention which is done through training and events among other activities.
One of those events is our new Brass Blokes Award which is aimed at recognising ‘blokes’ in our local community who have overcome adversity to give back to the community.
The Awards are being held at Souths Leagues Club on Friday 18 July – see attached brochure for more details.
So…. with this in mind, I am asking if you may be able to support Lifeline with this event? There are a couple of ways that you might be able to assist including:
- Help us promote the event which you can do by sharing this article on various social media including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc… The more people we get to the event, the more we can raise
- Print the brochure and promote the Brass Bloke Awards in your workplace
- Come to the event itself. We have a great line up of local ‘blokes’ who will be interviewed by local media legend Mike Rabbit and tell ‘their story’.
- Sponsor the event. If you, or your organisation are in a position to sponsor the event, we would really appreciate it. Ideally we are after a major sponsor (see attached letter for details), however every little bit counts. If you aren’t in a position to be a major sponsor, but can contribute as a minor sponsor or can donate an item that can be raffled on the night, it would be great. My company Dolphin Safety Solutions will start the ball rolling by donating $1000 for the night.
I appreciate your time in reading this e-mail and thanks in advance if you are able to help.
If you have any questions or would like to talk through, please drop me a line, or call on +61 424 037 112. Alternatively, contact Emma Askew directly at Lifeline at emmaa@lifelinehunter.org.au
Thanks,
Rob

Rob, such great work that Lifeline does in ‘saving lives’, not through slogans or fixations on safety but through the realistic hard work of everyday social resilience. I hope you get all the support you need. I couldn’t recommend more highly the work of Lifeline.
