One of the outcomes of learning iCue Engagement (https://safetyrisk.net/icue-engagement-process/ ) is the way it helps rapid conversations about risk, under pressure. Once iCue skills are learned and intuitive, one can get the best out of a 1-to-3-minute conversation about risk.
Such skills take quite some time to learn but are invaluable once any workplace puts this method in place. What a shame this workplace didn’t know how to do this: Victorian court imposes $1.3 million company fine under workplace manslaughter laws
The trouble with traditional safety and orthodox methods of risk assessment is they are locked into paper-based or forms-based thinking. It doesn’t matter whether one is on an iPad, laptop or phone app, it’s still an electronic form that requires the same mindset in thinking as all systems-based thinking. This is the same whether one markets systems as ‘new view’, HOP, differently, S2 or BBS. The question always remains: by what method? (https://safetyrisk.net/by-what-method-2/ )
In SPoR, we don’t use paper-based or app-based thinking. We use semiotic, visual-verbal skills that require no paper-work or traditional systems. We call the SPoR method for visual-verbal risk assessment iCue Engagement. This is documented in many of our free books (https://www.humandymensions.com/product/spor-and-semiotics/) and it works! (https://www.humandymensions.com/product/it-works-a-new-approach-to-risk-and-safety-book-for-free-download/).
It is not easy to learn iCue because it involves considerable unlearning of accepted safety systems, many of which don’t work.
You can watch a video on how iCue works here: https://safetyrisk.net/icue-as-visual-verbal-risk-assessment-a-video/

iCue can be undertaken formally or informally and the skills gained in learning are transferrable to other aspects of organisational activity. If you are doing an iCue informally, you really need to know what you are doing and, to develop intuitive competence in iCue takes up to 12 months of learning and coaching.
