While going to lunch with a client last week I was startled by a promotion they had for a new drink, yes you are seeing right, called ‘Safety’.
I kid you not!
Apparently 75% of Australians go to work Dehydrated, but Safety can do the following:
‘SAFETY Is your solution to long, hot workdays. Based on 20 years of research, this fibre prevents fatigue, boosts concentration & decision making. SAFETY also provides benefits such as better gut health, fat burning and appetite suppression. It keeps you feeling great throughout your work day!
- Convenient liquid breakfast
- Improves concentration & decision-making with Vitamin B12
- Optimises gut health and mental health with prebiotics
- Promotes fat-burning and appetite suppression
- 20+ years of science and research. Licensed science from Yale & Flinders University’
This is a pretty big claim by Safety (the drink) right here!
But what about what is in the drink? Salt? What about sugars? The very things that can harm are manufactured into this smoothie. This is the way selective safety works.
And sometimes, like Safety (the practice), it doesn’t actually hit the mark. Safety always seems best at describing what it isn’t.
Let’s go back to basics.
What about a drink of water as a solution for dehydration?
$0.002126 per litre in Adelaide, out of my tap, vs $6.50 for 350ml of Safety Mango Smoothie. Complete with green safety bars!
Easy choice.
Safety (the practice) has been making some pretty big claims last week. At the 23rd Congress for Safety and Health in the Workplace conducted in Sydney, the ILO reaffirmed its commitment to Vision Zero. https://visionzero.global/23rd-world-congress-safety-and-health-work-2023
This was a Zero Vision Event, did that register with you when you attended?
Of course, any practitioner in safety knows that Zero is not achievable https://safetyrisk.net/book-launch-zero-the-great-safety-delusion-free-download/
Indeed, it is amoral https://safetyrisk.net/115748-2/
It’s only real impact is brutality https://safetyrisk.net/when-zero-doesnt-work-dont-change-anything/
Everyone (except CEO’s, Association and regulators) believe it is delusional https://safetyrisk.net/update-on-zero-survey-just-believe/
Safety Practioners don’t support it.
https://safetyrisk.net/validating-endorsing-and-supporting-zero/
Zero Vision is also complemented by BBS and Systems and, is not about people.
Let’s go back to basics.
What about putting people at the centre of work
Social Psychology of Risk is a Visual, Verbal, Semiotic way of Understanding Risk. It is about Human ‘Being’.
It has a method, as I have written in my latest book, https://safetyrisk.net/spor-and-semiotics-a-conversation/ sharing tools to tackle Risk.
It has a curriculum, not a slogan https://safetyrisk.net/the-social-psychology-of-risk-handbook-i-thou/
And It Works https://safetyrisk.net/free-it-works-download-now-works/
I think it is enlightening that a company puts out a drink called ‘Safety’ and thinks it will sell.
Is this the view of the general public?
Cheers Matt
BTW, I also don’t recommend Safe-Tea https://safetyrisk.net/have-you-had-a-drink-of-safetea/
Jason Martell says
Lets all drink the cool aid, everybody’s doing it!!!!
Matt Thorne says
The by-products and trade-offs that occur are rarely given thought at the start.
Rob Long says
I think if I had to drink Safety I’d feel sick.
Matthew Thorne says
Safety is not fit for consumption!
Rob Long says
When Safety comes first everything else (including critical thinking) comes last.
