Safety message getting through to business and brokers
Awareness of the need to invest in a safe workplace is expanding as business owners and brokers are increasingly focused on protecting employees from harm.
The value of promoting their safety credentials is also being realised by employers as demonstrated by the surge of entries into the 2012 NSCA National Safety Awards of Excellence.
With the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) awards entering their 20th year, the number of
nominations is more than double those of last year to a new record high.
“Workers are usually the largest single cost to a business and workers compensation can be the largest insurance cost,” says Mr Jason Allison, Executive Manager Workers Compensation Portfolio with Suncorp Commercial Insurance.
“Investing in the safety of employees is not simply a moral obligation for an employer, it also makes sound business sense.”
With business owners increasingly taking steps to engage in risk management, insurance brokers have a critical role ensuring that their clients get the right advice.
“GIO Workers Compensation works closely with brokers and customers to improve workplace safety and ensure that preventing accidents is a priority,” says Mr Allison.
“A timely and well-informed piece of advice from a broker or a GIO Risk Manager can save a business the considerable disruption and expense that often results when someone is injured on the job.
“It’s pleasing to see that investment in this area is growing amongst business owners, and that they’re promoting their progress in improving their safety culture.”
The 2012 National Safety Awards of Excellence presentation will be held on 11 October 2012. GIO Workers Compensation is the principal sponsor.
