Pool Safety Tips for Parents
Pool safety means that you adopt safety precaution to ensure that the good time you are having in a swimming pool doesn’t turn into tragic one. It is your responsibility as a parent to ensure that you take necessary precautionary measures to ensure that your children are safe while having fun in the swimming pool. A day that is spent at a spa or swimming pool with family members is very enjoyable especially for young kids who have a lot of energy to play in a pool. But as children enjoy parents are supposed to ensure that there kids have maximum protection. Latest research that has been conducted indicates that close to 260 children who are under the age of 5 years drown each year especially in residential spas and swimming pools. This research also shows that an estimate of 3000 children below the age of five years are normally treated in various emergency hospitals due to submersion accident every year. Here are some pool safety tips that can help you prevent accidents while having good time.
Supervision
Always ensure that your children are supervised when they are having fan in the swimming pool. If you can’t supervise them by yourself, employ a person who is well conversant with safety precaution of swimming pools. As a parent or guardian make sure that you educate your self on pool safety precaution so that incase an accident occurs, you can be able to help fast before things get out of hand. You should not take into consideration when your children ”drown proof” simply because they had swimming lessons. Young kids should always be watched.
Fence the pool completely
Install self- latching and self- closing gates. The latches should be out of reach to young children. Keep all windows and doors that leads to the pool area secure so that young children can be prevented from getting to the pool. Locks and effective barriers are preventative measures that are necessary. Things like tables and chairs should not be placed near the fence because children may be tempted to climb up the fence and cross over to the swimming pool. Also ensure that the fence has no openings that small children can use to cross towards the pool.
Keep children playing toys away.
Playing toys that children use while playing should be kept very far away from the pool. This is because it is very dangerous for small children to play around the swimming pool because they might fall in the pool while playing. Always ensure that kids’ playing ground is not near the swimming pool because they might be tempted to go and play near the pool.
Water clarity
This is important pool safety tip for parents. Never allow your children to swim in water that has poor clarity. This also includes days that are misty. If your child swims in water that in not clear, it becomes difficult for you as a parent to monitor and supervise. The same thing also applies in misty days. Accident can also occur when children are playing in water that is not very clear. They might hit each other while playing inside the pool because they are unable to see each other. It is also not healthy to swim in a pool that has unclear water.
Other safety tips for parents include having telephone near the pool and keeping emergency numbers near the poolside telephone .Rescue equipment’s should also be kept near the swimming pool so that they can be easily accessed whenever an accident occurs. Parents should also learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).When parents observes these safety tips ,we can greatly reduce pool accidents that are normally caused due to human error
