Non-Slip Tape Products: Their Uses and Benefits

By Robert J. Hartl

Some workplace injuries result from malfunctioning machinery or improper construction, while others result from slips and falls, occurrences that, in spite of their simple nature, can be as costly as injuries resulting from more complex scenarios. Attorneys specializing in slip and fall injuries are perhaps the most advertised attorneys of all, and the reason why is obvious: slip and fall accidents can happen anytime, anywhere, and it’s well known that the injured are entitled to compensation. So, how do you protect your company against slip and fall claims that would drive up its workers comp insurance and reduce its workforce? The answer may be simpler than you think: strategically applying non-slip tape products to areas and equipment where slips and falls commonly occur.

Critical Areas that Need Non-slip Tape

Most companies have no shortage of areas that need non-slip applications. But some areas cause more problems than others. Below, we list four critical areas that a non-slip tape manufacturer specializes in providing non-slip tape for.

1. Ladder Rungs

Do you have an industrial facility that features ladders that lead to control rooms or special maintenance areas, or an office space with a metal ladder leading to a storage area or air handling equipment? If so, applying strips of no-slip material to ladder rungs is key to protecting employees and/or service people from unfortunate injuries, and your company from unfortunate lawsuits and/or workers comp claims.

2. Shower Areas

No-slip material for shower areas is ideal for companies that feature large shower areas, such as health clubs and professional sports franchises, and companies that have small shower areas for the convenience of workers. While slip and falling in the shower doesn’t sound ominous, it often results in injuries that have a personal injury attorney at the victim’s bedside faster than you can say slip and fall.

3. Vehicle Running Boards

The most under mentioned source of slip and fall accidents, vehicles are routinely involved in slips and falls that cost companies big money. To prevent these occurrences, companies are wise to apply high-grade, no-slip material to the stepping areas of running boards and other equipment that helps drivers reach the driver’s seat. For example, manufacturers of no-slip solutions produce tape designed to stand up to oil and other substances that would cause most tapes to quickly lose their resistance.

4. Stairs Within Vertical Exit Enclosures

No-slip material is ideal for all stairs that feature a smooth stepping surface, but is especially valuable for stairs within vertical exit enclosures, which are primarily used for evacuations, occurrences where even one misstep could cause an egress jam that puts lives in jeopardy. To prepare for low visibility evacuations, applying photoluminescent no-slip material is ideal.

In my research on non-slip tape products, I’ve studied the value of buying specialty tapes from a non-slip tape manufacturer.
