Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a rare cancer, primarily always caused by exposure to asbestos. A toxic mineral used for its fire proofing capabilities, asbestos has been used in a number of occupations – construction, electrical, and power plants to name a few. Many of these workers who have come in contact with the toxin, have developed an asbestos related disease. Mesothelioma mainly affects the lungs, but in some cases has been found to be harmful to the heart and abdomen as well. Because the cancer takes a while to develop, people do not detect the symptoms sometimes until 20 plus years after their exposure to asbestos. The Mesothelioma Center is a one-stop resource for those who think the may have been exposed to asbestos at one time or another. Their patient advocacy team offers doctors and mesothelioma treatment options for those diagnosed with this cancer.
