DON’T DELAY IN CONVERTING TO HIGH RISK WORK LICENCE
SafeWork SA says workers cannot afford to delay any further in converting their pre- 1995 qualifications to operate forklifts, cranes, hoists and pressure equipment, or to perform rigging, dogging, or scaffolding work. The agency has recorded a dramatic rise in applications for new High Risk Work Licences as the September deadline approaches for the first conversions.
Seven weeks out from the conversion date, and the agency has had to put on extra staff to deal with the surge as operators ensure their qualifications are renewed and validated. “This is an involved process owing to the importance of the type of work at hand, hence there is a wait of several weeks for the licence to be processed,” says SafeWork SA Acting Executive Director, Bryan Russell.
“Part of that involves verifying the skills and competency of the applicant where qualifications issued prior to the 3rd of April 1995 are involved. “Accordingly, it’s best to begin the conversion process as soon as possible to ensure your licence is secured by the 1st of September,” Mr. Russell says. “The holder of a High Risk Work Licence will have their qualifications recognised anywhere in Australia, saving them the inconvenience of having to meet the requirements of different states or territories. “The new system will also allow for multiple qualifications to be recognised in the same licence.” The holders of pre-1995 tickets or certificates can call the SafeWork SA Conversion Line on 1300 975 909 to start the process, or check for further details on the SafeWork SA website:
