Types of Safety Wetsuits for Kids

Guest post

Many children love to go swimming in the summer time whether it be at the beach with friends or at a pool with family. With all this swimming, making sure your children are safe can be an issue. Luckily, wetsuits are the perfect swimming accessory that helps provide safety and protection for children. There are many types of wetsuits and they vary in style, body coverage, material, thickness and design. Some of them are:
– Long john wetsuit
– Spring suit
– Short john wetsuits
– Shorty wetsuit
– Wetsuit top
– Wetsuit west
– Rashguard
– Steamer
– Drysuit
– Semi dry suits
– Spearfishing long john/pants/jacket

Wetsuits for kids are usually full-body suits which are made of neoprene (in most of the cases), which is a foamy material made od carbon and hydrogen atoms. The full body suit fits snugly over the body, and provides warmth and buoyancy and wetsuits provide safety in three different ways, and have advantages over other safety accessories. Firstly, the nature of neoprene and its tight fit over the body allows the wearer to be warm no matter what the water temperature is. If the water temperature is not really low, then the wetsuit still gives you a sense of comfort. However, when the water is freezing, the wetsuit now plays a much more important role by keeping you warm and protecting you from losing body heat (hypothermia) and helps in regulating body temperature. Furthermore, wetsuits provide all this without the hassle of having to wear a large and bulky life jacket. The low density of the wetsuit will keep the child afloat and give you peace of mind knowing that the child will be safe from drowning. Finally, wetsuits provide abrasion resistance. Children are easily susceptible to injuries by falling or scraping themselves on something in the water. However, the wetsuit will protect them from any of those common injuries.

As mentioned above, there is a variety of wetsuit types to choose from that are suitable for different occasions and water activities. Besides many different safety benefits of wetsuits, people should consider the occasion when selecting a wetsuit for their kids. Some of the wetsuits listed above are the best for supervised swimming, when children don’t have to wear a full body wetsuit. Wetsuit tops or shorty wetsuits are perfect are recommended here and they would be just fine for providing the adequate amount of safety, especially regarding injuries.

For children who love swimming in the ocean and further out into the ocean, a full body wetsuit is the best fit  to provide full thermal and buoyant protection no matter what the circumstance is. This variety of wetsuits is excellent because it allows the wearer to choose whichever safety level they please. Even the thickness of wetsuits varies, ranging from thinner suits that are better for warmer waters to the thicker suits which are perfect for cold ocean water. Wetsuits have an advantage over other safety gear for children, such as conventional life jackets. While life jackets do provide buoyancy, they fail to provide any protection from the heat and are usually uncomfortable due to their bulkiness. Also, life jackets do have the potential to flip an amateur young swimmer upside down and cause them to panic in result. A wetsuit cannot flip a child upside down because of its coverage of the whole body, allowing the wearer to feel completely in control of swimming.

Wetsuits are clearly an exceptional way to provide safety for young children when they swim. Besides the extremely important safety benefits that wetsuits for kids provide (visit Cover Guys), they are practical, convenient and easily customized unlike some other water safety gear.
