Applying Anti Slip Tape to Different Surfaces
Guest Post
Anti slip tape comes in many forms these days, and you can virtually get a specialised variant depending on your need.
Surfaces, however, have always been varied, and will have different results when anti slip tape is applied to them.
Your two basic surfaces are porous and non porous, with porous being the one that would allow moisture in, and possibly under the surface the tape is applied to, contaminating the adhesive and causing it to possibly fail. Non-porous is, you guessed it, completely (internally anyway) waterproof.
Applying anti slip tape to a porous surface can be impacted by a few variants:
- Is it outside?
- Wood or porous rock?
- Is there lots of foot traffic?
With these factors in consideration, improper application can lead to the adhesive failing. However, the use of ancillaries can make the application as efficient as possible;
- IPA Cleaner – This is an alcohol based cleaner that will remove dirt, debris and grease from a surface, and is quick drying.
- Surface Primer – This is a must for porous surfaces, as factors such as low temperatures and moisture can affect how effective the adhesive is. A thin layer of this painted on to a surface, once dry, makes a watertight seal for the adhesive to bond to.
- Edge Fix – This is particularly useful for high foot-traffic and external areas. It is used to seal the edges of the anti slip material to prevent edge lift, and increase the durability of the material.
Using a combination of these ancillaries in the correct area will give you an efficient and durable application of your anti slip tape.
