The local safety shop – real service!
* This is not an advertisement! Simply a testimonial in support of the great personal service offered by a small, family owned business and written after a very positive experience by a highly respected Safety Professional
Whilst doing a bit of research for an employer about a health and safety issue I was unknowingly co-researching what safety suppliers were really like in terms of service and customer satisfaction and I was surprised about the outcome, at least in my circumstances.
It went this way – The employees have a unique issue when handling large type vegetables/fruit like pumpkins and watermelons. They were having issues around the ideal glove for what they were doing and some were sustaining minor lacerations from the back of the blade and stem of the pumpkins. Now without going into detailed risk assessments and knife handling skills I went searching for a glove that might just satisfy there needs and maybe solve the problem. After many clicks on the mouse on many websites, including the USA, I came across a few that gave me info that still did not hit the mark and I still did not get to look at the gloves they were suggesting.
I spoke to and emailed a number of sales persons and suppliers and I was thinking that maybe that is why the employees still use the type of glove – because no other type fits the task.
I went to the usual big names shops and grabbed the catalogues and received very little help – not even a hello at some. So I was no further advanced with a resolution.
Whilst doing another search I came across a safety shop in Melton (Victoria) and had a look at the usual online catalogue and found another brand of glove that was suited to food handling.
What made me take a closer look was on the second page where a food processing Manager made comment as follows: “This is a company that goes beyond old fashioned good customer service. If you have difficulty finding a product they will certainly find it and delivery it with in hours …”
So I gave them a crack at what my problem was. The outcome was they did find a couple of options which I will now take back to the Employer/Employees to try out as I was provided a box of samples to test out with a range of sizes.
Even if these samples do not do the job – we tried hard to make it safer for them.
The other interesting point was they have there own delivery service anywhere in metro Melbourne and I assume via courier anywhere.
Whilst I was there I was provided excellent advice on some artwork I need applied to some clothing and I even met up with one the safety shop Employees who was a well respected Supervisor in a previous role.
So next time you are looking for true customer service give your local safety shop a crack as you might just find a new experience in customer satisfaction.
