Safety Essentials
Just came across this glossy brochure from Leightons Contractors which outlines their approach to Managing Health and Safety. Although they just had to state their goal as “Zero Harm” (aaarrrggghhh) at least they are realistic enough to highlight their current focus: “To eliminate the potential for fatalities and permanent disabilities, and systematically reduce all other injuries”
Further in the doc, they are the first company I have seen to acknowledge CLASS 1 INCIDENTS which should please George Robotham who has been pushing for this approach forever.
Only had a quick glance so for but I particularly like their concept of Safety Essentials (see below), almost there but all pretty much technical/mechanical/physical/procedural essentials, not real warm and fuzzy or consultative unless I have overlooked that bit?. There is a lot of other stuff in there that I don’t agree with like the focus on developing a safety culture as opposed to an organisational culture and some very pretty but totally confusing diagrams showing how it all fits together. The system is all very technical and regimented, as would be expected, with not much in the way of human element. Anyway, an interesting and well put together brochure to have a squizz through and maybe glean a few ideas from.
