AMAZING – NOT ONE MENTION OF “ZERO HARM” AND HOW AWESOME IT IS?
Media Release – 24th May 2011
“Turbocharge Safety with Queensland Safety Show Seminars”
Jump on board for a massive head-start in the safety journey, with the help of 13 industry leaders and safety experts who are gearing up to provide attendees with practical knowledge and the latest insights into building a safer workplace at the Queensland Safety Show.
The Queensland Safety Show, CleanScene: The National Cleaning & Hygiene Expo and Advanced Logistics & Materials Handling will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 18 – 20 June 2013.
A feature-packed and free-to-attend seminar program at the show will provide added value to attendees, in addition to the innovative solutions and networking opportunities on the show floor.
A total of 15 sessions of 45 minutes each will run over the three days at the Queensland Safety Show, covering a wide range of topics, including OHS program planning, a revolutionary rethink of height safety, worker rehabilitation best practices, encouraging a thriving safety culture at the workplace, and risk management.
OHS representatives and managers will want to get in bright and early on the first day of the event, when Daniel Fish, Height Safety Consultant with Workplace Access & Safety, shares the practical secrets behind planning and funding safety projects on worksites – even if these initiatives are low visibility. If you miss out on this first session, be sure to attend the second or third seminar on the topic, presented by Brenton Hampson, National Sales Manager of Workplace Access and Safety.
For anyone working around heights, Carl Sachs’ sessions on AS/NZS1657 ladder safety are must-attends. In his “Lethal Ladders” seminars, the managing director of Workplace Access & Safety explores the results of cutting-edge research into ladder design, and its applications for fall prevention.
Struggling with an ineffective and clumsy Work Health and Safety Management System, or simply looking to update your WHMS? Don’t miss the seminar by TJ Philips, Senior Consultant with the National Safety Council of Australia, where she will provide practical insight into optimising a WHS management system to fit and grow with your business.
Following on the management theme, hear from Jo Kitney, Director of Kitney OHS, who will leverage her 20 years of experience in the field to explain the significance of management commitment, and its impact on managing health and safety at work.
The seminar program on the first feature-packed day of the Queensland Safety Show will end with a bang, as representatives from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, Q-COMP and WorkCover Queensland hold a panel discussion about working on a safer Queensland, best practice rehabilitation and return to work and workers’ compensation insurance.
No one wants to deal with the aftermath of a serious safety incident at a workplace, but proper management can make a big difference in outcomes. Carolyn Bucca looks at how Goodman Fielder dealt with one such incident at its Townsville Bakery, from identifying issues and system failures, to implementing corrective actions and controls, and how these have brought about a positive cultural change within the business.
One way to improve safety performance is via the use of safety software, but as with any other solution, there are pitfalls and traps to be avoided. Start steering in the right direction with Adrian Manessis, Business Development Manager at myosh, who will examine the benefits and risks associated with safety software.
WHS personnel, managers, workers, union stakeholders, inspectors and consultants will not want to miss the final seminar of day 2. Aaron Anderson, partner at Norton Rose, will discuss how to identify and effectively engage with the various people within and outside an organisation who may contribute to, or get in the way of, WHS management.
For a real-world perspective on the risks and opportunities associated with manual materials handling, do not miss Tim Strube’s seminar on the third day of the Queensland Safety Show. As head of marketing and business development at Rotacaster, Tim explores the importance of productivity and user experience improvement outcomes while delivering on risk management.
Looking for an alternative approach to building a safety culture? Explore the ‘bottom up’ approach with Cristian Sylvestre, Managing Director of SafeStart. See how the process quickly gets individuals engaged, and learn a highly effective framework of basic personal behaviours which will provide immediate safety outcomes for workers.
Safety personnel with a focus on environmental issues will save themselves a lot of grief by attending Phil Abernathy’s seminar on safety and environmental management. As Director of Absorb Environmental Solutions, Phil will walk attendees through what has and hasn’t worked, and discuss the tools needed to inform workers of their environmental responsibilities.
In the final seminar session, learn to untangle the complexities of Safety Management Systems with Ian Ackland, Senior Safety Auditor with NCS International. Learn from Ian’s practical experience in building a simple SMS which is standards-compliant.
A $3000 Flight Centre travel voucher is up for grabs on each day of the Trade Show. All you need to do is attend the Show on any of the 3 days and you will automatically go in the draw.
