Collapse of faith – Savar garment-factory disaster
Loving these Ted Talks and articles! This one is about the Collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Savar, Bangladesh, which killed hundreds of garment factory workers. The author tells us of his experience in being involved with the disaster, how corruption and greed can quickly lead to tragedy, and what’s being done to prevent illegal building practices.
This was a disaster that was clearly avoidable at many stages from the initial shonky building practices to the cracks that appeared in the structure just before the collapse and the decision of the owner to send the desperate workers back to their jobs.
