Free Construction Safety Toolbox Talks
Safety tool box talks are a very effective way of communicating current health and safety issues, hazards and recent incidents to the workforce. They are designed to be brief, efficient and delivered in the work environment before starting work for the day. I have found them to be much more effective that say a full day of induction due to problems with information overload. Not only can they be used to communicate new issues but also as a refresher for older ones. The ideal toolbox talks is interactive in that the group has opportunities to ask questions and provide their own reflection of the topic. Make sure you keep a record of who attended and even get them to sign an attendance form.
Despite the endless topics that could be discussed, some people run out of ideas or information to include. Fortunately there are many useful and free resources to assist. Here are just a few:
- This is one of my favourite sites with some excellent free safety resources from WA Dept Mines & Petroleum. Most of the safety resources are relevant and useful to other heavy industries as well. These PowerPoint shows are made available for non-commercial use (eg toolbox meetings and training sessions) subject to the condition that the content is not altered without permission from Resources Safety. SEE THE LIST HERE
- Safety Bob provides 21 free toolbox talks if you are struggling to come up with new ideas to inject some life into your toolbox talks. Safety Bob is pleased to offer the 21 behaviour-based safety “Tool Box” talks for you to use at your workplace. See the full list and links HERE
- The information on TOOL BOX TOPICS is awesome but the site is let down by the really crappy home page which very difficult to navigate. Click the arrows in the left column to find what you need – once you get in there you will see that you should never judge a book by its cover – VISIT SITE
- Safety Toolbox Talks was started in 2007 as a portal for safety professionals to share and exchange free safety topic resources . . . specifically Toolbox Topics, Toolbox Talks (or “Toolbox Talks”, “Toolbox Topics” , “Safety Chats” , “Tailgate Meetings” ) and other free safety resources. If you’re like so many companies these days, the daily safety meeting has proven very effective in reminding employees about the importance of safety in their daily tasks. They have a huge list of topics including welding, working alone, falling objects, manual handling and near miss reporting VISIT THEIR SITE
- These aren’t free, nor are they expensive considering what you get. Safety Talks is an animated training aid that runs on any laptop or PC. These are simple, graphic and multi lingual safety talks for construction and other work sites. Finished to a high standard with clear animated illustrations, these safety talks communicate clear key safety messages in an unambiguous way. VISIT SITE
