The next OHS magic bullet to hit us in 2016?
Great question just posted by Wayne Harris on Workplace health and Safety Leadership Linkedin page:
We had them all over the last 30 years or so, BBS, Lean BBS, Zero Harm, Transformational Safety, Safe Start, Zero Risk, Transitional OHS, etc. Sometimes these schemes have only been successful depending on the type of organisation, their size, and industry. Or the amount of money people can invest to keeping it going. So what do you think will be the next magic bullet or have we had enough and need go back to what we use to call management ?
Whatever happens we need not fear, HAZARDMAN is here!!!!
Definition of “Silver” or “Magic Bullet”
I recently had someone give me an “HUH?” when I mentioned the term “Silver Bullet” – here is the WIKI definition:
In folklore, a bullet cast from silver is often the only weapon that is effective against a werewolf, witch, or other monsters. Sometimes (not always) the silver bullet is also inscribed with Christian religious symbolism, such as a cross or the initials “J.M.J” (Jesus, Mary, & Joseph).
The term has been adopted into a general metaphor, where “silver bullet” refers to any straightforward solution perceived to have extreme effectiveness. The phrase typically appears with an expectation that some new technological development or practice will easily cure a major prevailing problem. It is quite possible, however, that this usage derives from a confusion of “silver bullet” with “magic bullet ,” the popular term for Dr. Paul Ehrlich’s newly discovered cure for syphilis in the early 20th century. The medical breakthrough was the subject of the 1940 film, “Dr. Ehrlich’s Magic Bullet”, and prompted the metaphorical use of “magic bullet” as a powerful cure for a pressing societal problem.
