Safety Blogging
Well this post isn’t exactly about Safety or Risk Management but its Easter Eve and time to shutdown for a few days. I’ve been running this blog for a couple of years now and whilst it takes up a lot of time, it ranks as one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. Not only from a financial perspective but mostly from the fact that I have helped and communicated with so many excellent people in the safety and risk community. I’ve also helped many of them get their business up and running, publicise their latest book or software and published their articles to an audience of now over 15,000 a day!!
A good friend of mine has just started blogging and it has been a great experience to help them set up and avoid all the traps that I fell into. Their blog is called LET SLEEPING BLOGS LIE and is about sleeping, dreaming, waking up and enjoying life in general. If you have ever gotten anything useful out of this blog could you do me a big favour? Visit their blog, its only in its infancy but if you could leave some comments of encouragement that would be very much appreciated. I know most of you are pretty tough old nuts but it wouldn’t hurt to crack a little now and then, relax and ponder some of the more important aspects of our lives.
My main piece of advice to any new blogger is to hang in there! Don’t lose site of the reason you started your blog. Don’t be despondent if you aren’t swamped with traffic from Google or wherever in the first few months. Keep regularly posting good quality, well written and interesting articles and word will soon get out. I have seen so many bloggers give up after a couple of months and a dozen or so articles and it is such a big shame. This blog didn’t start generating real popularity until after about 12 months by which time we had posted some 500 articles and now we have some awesome guest authors! Again – HANG IN THERE.
Now do yourself a favour and go check out LET SLEEPING BLOGS LIE.
MERRY EASTER
Dave
