Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start when you see the Archetype of Safety paraded so terribly online. But this is what the Archetype does, it operates in the unconscious and develops its myths through false beliefs and narratives that seduce people to believe them. And safety loves nothing better than affirming its myths by collective ignorance online. Praise god for AI.
We saw this with the video In the Blink of an Eye, Zero Vision promoted by Global Zero=Safety.
And strangely, it’s always semiotically religious. Don’t you know, safety ‘saves lives’. Of course, ‘In the Blink of an Eye’ is an apocalyptic quote from Paul (1 Corinthians 15: 51-51). Well, this latest one is from Brazil courtesy of TikTok and using the story of David and Goliath it poses Accidents as a beast and the safety saviour weakling David, as a worker. Here are some pics to help you capture the narrative.
The myth of David and Goliath can be found at 1 Samuel 17, a great story of the weakling child who conquers the beast with a. slingshot, whilst the army of Israel fail in the face of the Philistines. And of course, one day this weak shepherd boy becomes King. The hero myth is alive and well in Safety, fostered by countless narratives about heroes and heroines (https://safetyrisk.net/indiana-jones-and-the-hero-myth-in-safety/; https://safetyrisk.net/no-gurus-no-stars-no-heroes-needed-in-safety/) littered across the semiotics of safety. And Safety laps this stuff up like a Dyson.
What do we see in all of this?
- Safety loves religious identity and salvation soteriology.
- Safety adores the hero myth and projection of heroics onto ‘the safety of work’.
- Safety loves inventing and concocting false binary narratives of black and white battle against the evil of harm.
- Safety is controlled by its Archetype through myths and symbols.
None of this is real and is no different to the myths of HOP, SD or RE that concocts binary narratives about S1 vs S2. It’s all the same stuff complete with false slogans and moral imperatives, with no evidence.
Why all this concern and analysis of an AI cartoon?
All these narratives do, is weaken the credibility of safety and turn safety into a joke. Particularly, as safety seeks to claim the word ‘professional’ in every second breath, yet so much of its semiotics are false and mythical.
Safety underestimates the power of its semiotics to its own detriment. It underestimates how its myths (swiss-cheese, Heinrich’s Pyramid, Bradley Curve etc) diminish credibility and fuel amateurish discourse that make it unprofessional and unethical.
