Return of bullrush defies mollycoddlers
Recent article from the NZ Herald – well worth a read. About time someone “had some common sense” – and I use that term knowing it is probably inappropriate . I wish other school Principles would grow a pair and stand up to the ridiculous hyper-cautious impositions imposed upon them by a bureaucracy with no idea and who are only seeking to protect their own butts by banning all the things that kids need to develop their confidence AND risk awareness – and which may save their lives one day in the adult world or workplace.
Some notable quotes:
"We are always talking about encouraging our students to be risk-takers … and then we ban and limit things and mollycoddle them … How do they assess risk if we don’t let them?"
"We have got to allow children the opportunity to hang on to things until their arms get sore, and know the penalty for letting go."
