Importance & Essentials of Safety While Camping
Guest Post
Camping is a wonderful adventure, whether you are exploring the woods, tenting it out on the beach, or on a mountain hiking trip. The adrenaline rush and excitement is great but safety is easily compromised if a camping trip is not properly planned. The only way to avoid dreadful accidents and mishaps is to be careful and prepared. Let’s chart out a list of these basic preparations in order to enjoy a camping trip to the fullest.
Don’t isolate yourself entirely
Camping is an art of isolating your trips from civilization. It won’t hurt to inform someone back home about the whereabouts and contact information of your camping ground. You must also tell them your chronological plan so they know when to expect you back. Using cell phones might not be your first preference on such trips but carrying them for emergencies is not a bad idea. Cutting off communication is natural, but make sure to keep alive the possibility of some communication.
Safety kit is a must
The importance of medical aide cannot be stressed enough. Out there in the wilderness, it will be practically impossible to find a hospital or doctor in times of medical emergency. You must carry a very well equipped first aid kit and do your homework on basic first aid procedures. Check your kit and its contents for expiry and functionality before each and every journey. For situations that demand specialized medical help, be sure to keep information about nearest medical centers.
Better to be safe than sorry
Wildlife is an exciting and extremely intriguing environment to be in. It is of utmost importance to maintain your distance and admire wild animals from a distance. Remember, you are not a part of their habitat and their reaction to your presence can never be predicted. Many incidents of wild animal attacks have been recorded, which could easily have been avoided, if the curiosity of the cat was kept in check.
Even if an animal seems absolutely harmless it is not right to disturb them. Feeding, calling, going really close is not advised. We must respect their space.
Carry the camping essentials
Camping can be a tough experience for most people. One way to ease out the process is to carry important equipment along. Army knives, buckets, ropes, shovels, torches etc. Make a detailed list of things you might need at your camps and make sure they are in perfect working condition before packing.
Keep weather in mind
Weather can often play spoilsport and sometimes even be a ruthless punisher. Be prepared for such uncertainties and pack your clothes well. Especially if you are being accompanied by children make sure to dress them warm in cold areas, for they are more susceptible to temperature changes and their effects on the body. For tackle heat/humidity carry lots of water and oral rehydration solutions. Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, as they dehydrate the body.
Nothing can match the worth of valuable experience, if an experienced camper can be managed to accompany you, it will be a blessing. Amateurs and novices are bound to panic in difficult situations and emergencies. It is in times like these that you need a seasoned person to keep his cool and deal with the challenge.
Maintain safety first and the fruits of camping are countless.
