WAMskirt “Conveyor Skirting and Sealing System”, Australian Patent No. 2006312988

clip_image002The WAMskirt “Conveyor Skirting and Sealing System” is designed so the liners inside the skirt wall are fully maintainable from outside the transfer station. The external maintainability of the WAMskirt system, eliminates the need for personnel to enter enclosed (generally very tight) skirting areas thus removing confined space access issues, reducing the number of personnel required to maintain the system (no longer the need for CS sentries), and significantly reduces the risk of manual handling injuries associated with liner maintenance.

The WAMskirt system works by installing every second liner on a removable module which once removed provides access to the liners mounted on the “fixed” section of the structure. The removable module and liner combination weighs less than 18kg and is easily managed by 1 person during removal and installation. Where the conveyor structure is installed higher than 1m, mobile access platforms are used to ensure the removable modules can be removed and replaced without over reaching.

clip_image019Together with the external maintainability, the WAMskirt system incorporates a specifically designed liner which encourages material to move away from the skirt wall and a dual dust sealing system to ensure airborne particles are retained within the transfer. The primary seal is also designed to minimise the surface contactwith the conveyor thus reducing the potential for top cover wear in the skirting area.

The features and benefits of the WAMskirt Conveyor Skirting and Sealing System are:

· Eliminates confined space entry requirements for skirting liner maintenance.

· Provides easy access for inspections and maintenance.

· Reduces the number of personnel required for maintenance activities (no confined space sentries required)

· Controls and reduces spillage and retains dust within the transfer.
