Forestry Sector Guide to Workplace Safety 2014 – Released
Press Release
There are many contributing factors to an industry’s overall safety performance. In the case of forestry operations, forest characteristics, climate, the requirements of the industry, workers’ skills, working methods and technologies employed all play a part. In order to prepare oneself and increase awareness of safety regulations and strategies, Pro-Visual Publishing, in collaboration with the Australian Forest Contractors Association and the Australian Forest Growers, has released the newest edition of their Forestry Sector Guide to Workplace Safety. This easy-to-read guide provides useful information to workers, contractors, managers and others involved within the industry.
One prominent topic of this year’s guide is fire safety. There is always a risk of fire in a forest but this risk is particularly high during long periods of hot or dry weather. Before starting forestry operations, it is important to assess and minimise the risk of fire.
However, the main focus this year is on timber harvesting. The guide addresses systems and procedures for identifying hazards, controlling risks and maintaining safe operations when felling trees and tree limbs, with machinery and/or without. “I would like to thank all of the sponsors of the Forestry Sector Guide to Workplace Safety 2014. Their support has made it possible for the guide to be distributed free of charge”, said John Hutchings, CEO, Pro-Visual Publishing.
